The month of May has been proclaimed by the Honourable Dustin Duncan, Minister of Education, as CAA School Safety Patrol Month in Saskatchewan. The entire month will be devoted to recognizing and thanking the thousands of patrollers for their valuable volunteer work and dedication in promoting school zone safety in Saskatchewan school zones.

“We are proud to proclaim May as CAA School Safety Patrol Month and recognize the important role safety patrollers play in supporting their fellow students getting to and from school safely,” Education Minister Dustin Duncan said. “Thank you to these young leaders for making a difference in your communities."

To help celebrate the accomplishments of the many volunteers of the CAA School Safety Patrol program, CAA Saskatchewan is providing a small honourarium to each Saskatchewan school registered in the CAA School Safety Patrol program. The honourarium can be used by the school’s safety patrol coordinator to facilitate a celebratory activity such as bowling, movie night, and a pizza party, along with the support of CAA Rewards partner, Pizza Hut.

According to Angel Blair, CAA School Safety Patrol Coordinator, “School zones are busier than ever, and these volunteer students should be recognized for their time and dedication as safety ambassadors in our communities. We’d like to remind motorists to be alert in school zones, obey the posted speed limit, and follow the safety direction of our patrollers on duty.”

CAA Saskatchewan has owned and managed the CAA School Safety Patrol program since 1951, providing training materials, patroller handbooks, stop paddles, and reflective vests free of charge. There are more than 3,000 patrollers in close to 100 schools from 42 Saskatchewan communities.
