It's Week Three! Road Users in Redvers and Pilot Butte Speak Out. Check Out the Current CAA 2024 Top Ten Worst Roads.
CAA’s popular, annual spring Worst Roads campaign continues with nominations and votes from Saskatchewan road users for the worst roads they’ve recently travelled on. Road users include motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and passengers who have until April 29th to nominate and vote for unsafe roads in this year’s campaign. CAA’s 2024 Top Ten Worst Roads will be announced on April 30, 2024.
The current listing of the top ten worst, unsafe roads from across the province can be viewed at caaworstroads.com/clubs/saskatchewan. The nominations and votes are constantly changing and are automatically updated.
Selections and votes for worst unsafe roads that have potholes, poor road maintenance, poor road signs or road markings, unpaved roads, traffic congestion, no or poor cycling infrastructure, or poor transit infrastructure is easy and only takes a few minutes. One vote per road per road user in a 24-hour period is acceptable.
New this year is one grand prize of a $1,000 (one thousand dollar) Shell Gift Card courtesy of CAA Saskatchewan, to be selected through a random draw from all eligible votes. The winner will be announced on April 30, 2024. Click here for contest rules.
On Tuesday, April 23, Angel Blair, CAA’s Worst Roads Roving Reporter interviews road users in Redvers, Saskatchewan to talk about Highway 13 which was #4 in CAA’s 2023 Top Ten Worst Roads. The major unsafe problem was potholes.

According to road user Patricia Miller, “It’s pretty bad - people have wrecked their tires, wrecked their rims going down there. It’s dangerous because you are dodging the holes so you are in and out of your lane and if you hit the holes doing the speed you are - it can take you and throw you. It affects businesses big time because you know if people don’t feel safe travelling it, they are not going to come from town to town and therefore the businesses and the industry suffer from that – a lot.”
Spence Sutter added, “Ambulances actually have to sometimes pull over and start some of the machines again because it is so rough in the ambulance.”
“It doesn’t take long to drive up and down that road to have shocks, springs, airbags broken – it just totally annihilates new trucks in a year and that is even driving slow,” said Frank Bedecs.

Kiana Lima, a resident of Pilot Butte had this to say about Butte Street, "It’s such a brutal road even when they put gravel on it – it doesn’t seem to help. When it rains or snows, it just gets muddy and there are more divots and it’s just a mess.”
Another resident and road user Kayla Trevena added, "They did do a little repair and added gravel and what not, but I would say it is not a good road that we enjoy using. It’s bumpy, messy and it’s quite slippery. In fact, they had to put up a sign because of all of the complaints that it was impassible when wet. Particularly our bus drivers - they have to take the ditch at times because it was so bad they can’t even drive on the main part of the road.”
